Dear Friends, a month has gone by since we left our beloved Jozi, and life continues. We are settling in nicely. We are still very much bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with all the newness of our Hermanus dorpie, “Onrusrivier” village where we stay, the “Hemel-en-Aarde” wine valley, the beautiful ocean, the majestic mountains in our backyard, the hiking and cycling trails in the forest and “klowe”, the numerous local country markets here, Stanford, Betties Bay, Pringle Bay and beyond, whale watching, live music concerts and outdoor picnics. The newly UNESCO gastronomic status awarded to this region, friendly neighbours that open their hearts and home for us to make you feel accepted and the freshly picked fynbos & protea bouquet displayed on my dining room table.
You give a hello wave to the unknown soul from your kitchen window walking past your house because you made eye contact through the fence and not a brick wall. No panic attack if the gate is left open behind you because you didn’t immediately push the button to close it. Very little is automated here.
As a student, I joined a lovely Pilates studio in Hermanus and am thoroughly enjoying my first 5 private sessions with a competent instructor who is getting me ready to join a group class.
The saying goes that spring arrives on the 1st of December in the Overberg, which seems true! Since we arrived a month ago, we have had overcast cool and rainy weather almost every day. The rain is always welcome as it is much needed not just here but also elsewhere in our beloved country. What I sorely miss is my hard-working, lovely daughter and my amazing friends and family left behind. Clients from the studio, all the chitchats, fun and laughter we had and special conversations we shared. Now that the Overberg cannot give me yet!!!
